Energy Assistance & LIHEAP Information

Henry County REMC is committed to helping members maintain safe and reliable electric service. Assistance may be available through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), administered by the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority (IHCDA).

Important Service Protection Information

Under Indiana law (IC 8-1-2-121), Henry County REMC may not terminate residential electric service under the following circumstances for customers who are eligible for and have applied for LIHEAP assistance:

Winter Protection Period

Residential electric service may not be disconnected from December 1 through March 15 for customers who are eligible for and have applied for LIHEAP assistance.

Extreme Heat Protection

Residential electric service may not be disconnected on any day for which the National Weather Service has forecast, within the preceding 48 hours, a heat index of at least 95 degrees Fahrenheit for the customer’s service area, for customers who are eligible for and have applied for LIHEAP assistance during the current calendar year.

Please note: Customers do not need to have already received LIHEAP funds to qualify for these protections. Customers who are eligible for and have applied for LIHEAP assistance are protected.
