Before electricity reached rural Henry County, life after dark looked very different. Farms were lit by kerosene lanterns, chores were done by hand, and most rural homes had no electric service at all.

In this special 90th anniversary episode of The Power Hour, we tell the story of rural electrification, the cooperative movement, and the 13 local farmers who helped organize Henry County REMC in 1936.

It’s a story about more than poles and wire. It’s about neighbors working together to transform rural life and build something that still serves our community 90 years later.

Plus, we share details about our 90th Anniversary Harvest Jubilee, happening Thursday, October 8, from 1–6 p.m. at Whitetail Tree Farm in Springport.
