Henry County REMC’s Inaugural Power Swing Classic Raises $13,000 for Secret Families of Henry County

(Monday, September 8, 2025 | New Castle, Ind.) Henry County REMC (HCREMC) is proud to announce the success of its inaugural Power Swing Classic golf outing, held at Memorial Park Golf Course on August 23. The event raised an incredible $13,000 in support of Secret Families of Henry County, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing Christmas gifts, meals, and support for families in need.

The Power Swing Classic brought together community members, sponsors, and golfers for a day of fun, fellowship, and giving back. With strong participation in its first year, HCREMC has announced that the golf outing will now become an annual tradition, with a new local organization benefiting from the proceeds each year.

“The Power Swing Classic was born from an idea our lineman, Cory Murphy, had about raising money for a worthy cause,” said Amber Houser, Chief Financial Officer at HCREMC, who helped lead the planning of the event. “Seeing his idea come to life and raise such a significant amount for families in need shows what can happen when we come together with purpose.”

This spirit of collaboration reflects one of the seven cooperative principles that guide HCREMC and all cooperatives: Concern for Community. From its members to its employees, the cooperative is committed to building stronger, more resilient local communities.

“The first Power Swing Classic exceeded our expectations,” added CEO, Melissa True. “In the planning stages, this event picked up momentum quickly. It is a true reflection of ‘Concern for Community.’ We are so grateful to everyone who made this event possible and contributed to its success.”
