A Note on the Proposed Data Center in Henry County

Henry County REMC provides electric service to a defined territory that includes the proposed data center site near State Road 109 and I-70, just outside of Knightstown. While the project remains in its early stages, it is being proposed by Surge Development. Hoosier Energy, our generation and transmission partner, would be responsible for any potential power agreement with the developer. Henry County REMC is also closely monitoring the project to ensure we are prepared to serve the site and support our members if the development moves forward.

Our focus is clear: If the project proceeds, we will ensure that any power agreement reflects terms and conditions that benefit our entire membership. As always, our commitment is to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable service, whether to a single-family home, a small business, or a large new member like a data center.

We understand that opinions in the community vary on this potential development. It’s important to note that Henry County REMC is not involved in the land sale, zoning, or permitting process. These matters fall solely under the authority of local and state governmental entities.

Recently, signs related to the proposed project have appeared on our poles. For safety reasons, no signage is allowed on REMC utility poles. Staples, nails, or fasteners can endanger our lineworkers by damaging expensive protective equipment and tools. We kindly ask for your help in keeping our crews safe.

As your local electric distribution cooperative, we will continue to follow our core cooperative principles — including transparency, accountability, and commitment to community — as we work with all parties involved to make sound, informed decisions for the long-term benefit of our membership.
